Description:
"Desire", a sorrowful, semi-nude woman, twists her body behind a bronze “rock” that resembles male and female forms in an exaggerated, symbolic fusion—fluid yet solid like waves or stone. The “rock” is actually weathered driftwood, its texture bold and unrefined. From one angle, it also resembles Guanyin with palms pressed together, witnessing worldly suffering.
Interpretation:
In
Jin Ping Mei, materialism, sexuality, and even human affection are all illusions. The erotic elements are mere surface—beneath them lies unending desire. This sculpture captures that essence, using flowing forms to echo the aimless journey of desire. The figures, bound by their passions, reflect a world where hope for renewal emerges from decay. It is not a moral judgment, but a reflection.
