"Technology Vs Time Ⅱ"
How do we interpret the matadorian bull in 2021?
Davood Roostaei, seems to say, very differently.
In this work the bull seems to have escaped the vicious space of the arena. While the bull is still raging, the matador in contrast has been straightjacketed, taking the form of a robot.
Roostaei reveals the irony, playfully referencing the sterile robotic movements of the matador, also with some humour. The matador here is unable to even lasso the bull, let alone strike a killing blow.
This interpretation is in contrast to many of Roostaei’s earlier matadorian works.
What does this say then, about the future of bullfighting? Roostaei sparks the wider question, what happens to the human race in the face of a crumbling contemporary technology, which is often not even powerful enough to resist the fairly amateur hacker?
