Artwork Description

Pulse is a dynamic abstract composition that captures rhythm, energy, and restrained intensity through layered texture and gestural movement. Warm earthen browns and burnished gold tones form a richly textured field, interrupted by a luminous central passage where white and mineral surfaces converge. Sharp red accents punctuate the composition like measured beats, introducing tension and momentum without overpowering the whole. Whether presented horizontally or vertically, Pulse maintains a strong sense of balance and flow, allowing the viewer’s eye to travel across the surface in a continuous, contemplative rhythm.

Artist Biography

After many years of independently evolving his craft, Kim is ready to share his art with the world. These bold, organic, creations evoke the beauty, power and inspiration of nature – raw and ready for discovery. Built up by hand and with no paintbrushes or knives, he layers colours on wet canvas and manipulates paint by “washing” it off. Occasionally, sand (and in his most recent works, coffee grounds) are incorporated.
G Kim Hinkson as President and founder of Ocean West Financial Group, GK Hinkson’s life changed course on a business flight home.  G Kim Hinkson re-watched a film he’d seen before, the 2000 biopic Pollock, about the modern American painter. Hinkson said, “By the time I’d gotten halfway through that movie, I was so pumped, all I could think about was how I was going to get my assistant to find me a studio.”

The result is soothing but with an underlying tension not unlike a naturalized version of the marble paper flyleaf of an antique book.

2018 has seen his work exhibited in Vienna, Montreux and later in the year it will be at Art Basel in Switzerland. Hinkson is also launching an offshoot line of men’s dress socks and a sports clothing line incorporating his designs.

“Painting is therapeutic, I love that vortex — the singular focus on the artistic process. When I’m painting everything else just disappears.”
