David Hovan is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist with a career that spans over forty years. David Hovan spent his formative years enjoying the creativity and vitality of the internationally renowned art scene in his native city of Beirut, Lebanon.
His mother, a watercolorist in the style of Cezanne, and his father, a leather artisan, noticed at an early age that David was expressing a maturity and depth in his creative endeavours that were beyond his years.
After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree and working as an actor in local theatres, David won a prestigious art scholarship to pursue graduate studies in the United States. While in the United States he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dallas, Texas and continued his exploration of the arts with post graduate doctoral research in art theory and criticism at the University of Illinois.
Following his heart to Canada, David immersed himself in the world of professional theatre; acting, directing, writing and producing a number of works both on stage and film. This work led to many awards as an independent filmmaker
Eventually David shifted his multidisciplinary artistic expression to fine art by further independent studies in the visual arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design as well as intensive private studio mentorship and practice in Vancouver, BC.
David lives and works in Vancouver on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations where he maintains a full-time professional studio practice.
