Artist Biography

Shahla Karbalaei is a Persian miniaturist and artist. She was born in Esfahan and grew up in this beautiful and historical city in the Middle East. It was until she was a fresh interior designer that she met a living practicing artist for the first time. Shahla Karbalaei then realized that art career was actually a possible option for her. For the next few years or so, she studied art formally and concentrated on painting and drawing.

It was until she was a fresh interior designer where she met a living practicing artist for the first time. Shahla Karbalaei then realized that art career was actually a possible option for her. For the next few years or so, she studied art formally and concentrated on painting and drawing.
She knew she wanted to make art, period! So, she started working as a part-time interior designer, and turned to a full-time artist to fulfill her ambition.
To make the story short, she moved to Canada with her family in her middle age; her life experiences have led her to conclude that drawing and painting are the best media for her to express her journey of life. She believes that art creates a unique and powerful means with which to speak about momentary existence.

Over the years, she has dabbled in many techniques and different materials; She get deep inspiration not just from the breathtaking and rich culture of Iran, but also from the scenery of western culture. Shahla has participated in over 30 exhibitions in museums and galleries in Canada, Iran, and other countries.
She wants to reconnect individuals to their primal instincts. When painting on canvas, she tries to illustrate her Persian instincts to the modern Western world and build a meaningful bridge to the sight of the audience.
